THE RAINBOWThe bridge between land and sky - earth and sky
In ancient Greek mythology, Iris was the goddess of the rainbow, bringing the commands of the gods down from Mount Olympus to the land of the mortals. Iris was the divine messenger, and the rainbow was the colourful embodiment of her path from Olympus to the land of the living. The part of the eye that surrounds the pupil is called the "iris" for this reason: because its pigmentation suggests the colours of the rainbow. Like the Romantics, many artists, especially landscape painters such as William Turner and John Constable, and later Impressionists such as Monet, attempted to capture the colours of the rainbow, as well as its illusory quality. Because a rainbow is a trick of the light, where the white light of the sun is refracted and reflected by masses of tiny raindrops, it became especially popular with 19th-century Romantic and Impressionist painters.
In my installation at the habilitation, Mora hospital, I have worked with the classical elements FIRE, WATER, AIR AND EARTH. The art connects the concept with the interior and both relates to and differs from it. I have wanted to highlight the magic and fairy-tale of the four elements and work with the waiting rooms as part of a holistic approach to the artistic design - a red thread that runs through the two rooms and the first corridor adjacent to the waiting rooms. In the adult waiting room, water ripples over the walls in a large mural.
